Home, Againe

John McAuliffe

In the Lyric Feature on RTÉ lyric fm broadcasted at 6 pm on Sunday 9th December 2018, poet John McAuliffe explores the legacy of the Elizabethan poet Edmund Spenser and the influence of Spenser’s work on his own poetry.

A few years ago, John wrote a sequence of poems about a journey from England, where he has lived since 2002, and his home country of Ireland. He called his sequence of poems Home, Again, harking back to a poem written over 400 years ago about a mythical shepherd who journeyed from Ireland to England and back, called Colin Clout’s Come Home Againe.
