This programme tells the story of the life and writing of Winifred Letts, poet, playwright and novelist. Born in England, she spent most of her life in Ireland, wrote poems that became favourites in Irish primary schools and were set to music by Stanford and other composers, was the second woman (after Lady Gregory) to have work staged at the Abbey Theatre, and published war poetry that preceded that of some of the best known (male) war poets.
