Presenter Rick O’Shea explores the diverse and vibrant world of poets and poetry in the Poetry Programme, a weekly series on Saturdays on RTÉ Radio One at 7:30 pm.
Series 1 was broadcast between 24 January 2015 and 25 December 2015.
Series 2 was broadcast between 16 January 2016 and 14 January 2017.
Across the two series we met established and acclaimed Irish poets, including Eiléan Ní Chuilleanáin and Paul Muldoon, international poets, such as the wonderful Liz Lochhead, and a new generation of poets, like Miriam Gamble, Dylan Brennan and Stephen James Smith, who write engaging and challenging poems about Ireland and Irish life today. The programmes also experienced the lively ‘live’ poetry scene around the country, with regular reports from Julien Clancy.
From Slam Poetry to Yeats, from Donne to Durcan, from Bishop to Boland, the Poetry Programme is for everyone who loves poetry. And those who just don’t know it yet.
The Poetry Programme is a Rockfinch production for RTÉ. The members of the production team are Claire Cunningham (series producer), Julien Clancy (reporter/co-producer), and Dave Lordan (research). Niall MacMonagle acted as consultant during the first series.
