Bound by Regulations was my first ever radio documentary. I was inspired to make it when I discovered that, while I had grown up hearing stories of the hiring fairs, many Irish people had never even heard of them. I was fortunate to find three people who had been hired at the fair in Strabane in the early years of the 20th century who told me their stories. The programme was first broadcast on RTE Radio 1 on 1 February 1995.
